Digital Equity is defined as “a condition in which all individuals and communities have the information technology capacity needed for full participation in our society, democracy and economy.” Digital equity is something I believe everybody should have. Not only because technology is such an essential part of our society today, but also it is important for all to understand how technology works and how to navigate it appropriately. A large part of digital equity is ensuring that students everywhere have the resources and means to learn and have access to technology. Unfortunately this is not the case and I believe it is something that has to be fixed.

Digital equity and technology not being available to every student and citizen creates many problems that stem from uneducated decisions and lack of resources. A lot of people who practice poor behavior in technological settings often are not digitally literate and are unaware of how their decisions not only have an impact on themselves but others inside of their digital communities as well.

The same barriers that prohibit the spread of digital equity domestically are the same barriers that prevent digital equity globally. Digital equity is something that everybody deserves to have no matter who they are or where they live in the world and in order for us to have a truly proper functioning environment we have to find a way to make this possible. The world is progressing so quickly with technology that people will be left behind without the necessary skills. We must all do our part to ensure that those around us can achieve digital equity.
